OEDIPUS IN THE CLINIC

Freud, desire and the question of the Oedipus complex

A small face-to-face clinical seminar in Brisbane.

Saturday 17 October 2026
9:00 am – 12:30 pm
Face-to-face | Brisbane
7 participants | $75 pp.

Freud's Oedipus complex has become one of the most familiar — and perhaps most misunderstood — concepts in psychoanalysis.

In this seminar we will return to Freud's formulation and follow the question through Lacan.

What does Oedipus tell us about desire, the subject and the analytic encounter? And what might it allow us to hear differently in clinical material?

We will consider Freud's thinking on infantile sexuality and the Oedipus complex, the relationship between Oedipus and castration, and Lacan's reading of Oedipus as a structuring operation in the constitution of the subject.

The seminar will combine selected texts, theoretical discussion, clinical material and conversation.

No prior knowledge of Lacan is required.

The group will be deliberately small, with only 7 places, to allow for discussion and close engagement with the material.

I hope you can join me in this exciting clinical seminar!
